If you could choose any space ship to have as your own and fly around in, what would it be?

I usually allow people two space ships - a single seater of some kind, and a fully crewed spaceship.

Single seater for me is a Fer-de-Lance from the computer game Elite.

As it says in the manual "The Fer-de-Lance is seen by many of the more experienced pilots as the best fighter ever. It was the craft of choice of the rich, well-connected bounty hunter, and was also owned by many assassins. The latter group proved to be the ship's downfall, however, as a large number of assassinations of high ranking officials on both sides led to the banning of both the Fer-de-lance and military lasers. Outside of museums, the only Fer-de-Lances still flying are owned by high-ranking military officers or chiefs of corporations who can afford to bribe the police." I always saw myself as the rich, well-connected bounty hunter. I would hide in the gas giants of anarchic systems and pick off the surprised pirates.

Crewed spaceship is an Imperial Super Star Destroyer from the Star Wars universe. I would stride around the bridge looking imperious, with a big black cloak on and load classical music blaring out from the speakers. Sometimes I would shoot the odd minion for displeasing me.

The small ship would be the tie defender

I believe it offers the best combination of firepower and defensive capability. It should be pointed out that the rebel equipment is much better but, frankly, they're a load of gun toting right-wing maniacs and my sympathies are firmly with the imperials in this one. (Don't believe the films, that's just propaganda).

For my crewed ship I would have something small and practical. The defiant class from DS9 is nippy and gets you from A-B in style and with speed but with enough armaments to take care of itself. Retrofitted cloak (in some episodes) is definitely handy.

Darth vader the green cross man or darth vader James Earl Jones?

(I don't watch top gear, Clarkson makes me itch).

I don't think he was fastest - that was one of the cybermen. But he did get a round of applause for being cool. It was a Honda Civic.

They had to disqualify the two daleks for not being able to fit in the car :-)

I'll have Voyager please, because it's got warp drive etc, as well as that snazzy fighter-sized smaller ship inside it (the one they introduced in later series and used to let Paris drive, the fools). And because it can land on planets, which would be handy for shopping (had to inject an element of girlieness there I'm afraid ;-> )

You beat me to it. I was going to put Bird of Prey down as my ship. If not that then it's the Pheonix from Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets).

All possible with Eve-Online. [livejournal.com profile] road_runner and I had an epic space battle the other night against some other humans in Cruiser class ships. My railguns rule. One of you needs to join us, we can provide loads of great ships and weapons almost immediately for you..

Anyway, back on topic..

Small Ship.. hmm.. I really like the one that the two aliens in the Simspons have - it looks really easy to fly. No, I think I'd have to go for the Vorlon ship that Kosh flies in B5. An organic 'sentient' ship.

Large Ship.. Sleeper Service from the book 'Excession' by Iain M Banks. Eccentric, huge, and full of engines. My Moa from Eve-Online is also great, and both the immense Explorer class ship and the Aggamemnon (?sp) that were in B5.

I want the Liberator.

I get to have a semi-telepathic connection with a highly intelligent computer, and a large, fast, and well-armed ship that only seems to need four other people to crew it. Plus, teleport.

And an enormous comfy couch on the flight deck.

Oh the one that looks a bit like a swan that can be found on old sci-fi book covers and in those space ship guides that were based on old sc-fi book covers.

That one - by Angus McKie - used as the "Hooded Swan" in Brian Stableford's series of novels about Grainger.

It was some sort of space liner ("Interstellar Queen"?) in the space ship guides. ;)
