Temporal update

It was a nice clear night, so I set my telescope up for a look at Saturn, which is in opposition about now. It's shining bright and obviously a browny/yellow colour just below Castor and Pollux. Saw it clearly through my scope, and I worked out where Titan was too, which was topical considering what was to happen on Friday.

Spent the day with an ickle window in the corner of my monitor watching NASA TV and getting updates on Huygens. I was very happy when we knew it had landed successfully and was sending back data. Hurrah for the Internet. It was fantastic to see "first picture from the surface of Titan" before I went to bed. Sadly, no black monolith. Observed usual phenomena of science broadcasting: glamorous TV anchorperson who, when it comes down to it, has the scientific knowledge of a slug, paired with scruffy ill-at-ease scientist who really wants to get back to the raw data feed and not answer questions for this uneducated TV person.
My parents came visiting so I was easily able to get out to Darklands and see people. I hadn't really been out much for since December Wendy House so that was nice. I really needed to see people dressed in black in a darkened room.

Bought Evie a BOOKCASE! Bwa ha ha - she already has a book collection. OK, so at the moment she prefers to eat books rather than read them, but I'm sure that will change. Apparently I'm in charge of reading books. Oh, woe is me! Reading books and putting on silly voices. :-)
Went to The Wendy House in the evening, which was mellow. I wasn't in a huge party mood, but it was nice to get out and see people again. Had fun getting

My theoretically UV-active black jelly bracelets turned out not to be at all.

Off to Middlesbrough to see them play Everton. A 1-1 draw, which effectively ends any hope of a Champions League place, however slender those hopes were. Just need to keep it together and stay in the top six though.
Completely forgot I had a spiky pink UV-active earring in from the previous night. Trash noticed but declined to tell me, and spent the day giggling inwardly as I wandered round the Riverside acquiring strange looks.

Trash gets to start again as full time primary childcare provider with a much healthier baby, and seems a lot happier about it.

Went to the dentist's first thing. I have a small ache in a tooth and it turns out it's due to dentine exposure. Once more my Pepsi Max habit has lead to the enamel of a tooth being eaten away by the acid. Oops! I now need to lay off acidic drinks for a while.
Met the lovely

Luckily, I have never been able to see the appeal of these - they're fattening, rot your teeth, are full of weird chemicals, taste horrible...and make your teeth fall out!
The kids in my office start on Coke as soon as they get to work - about 7.30/8am - I can barely contend with a glass of water at that time!
Perhaps you should develop a nice healthy like for fruit juice?

I always drink the non-sugar varieties, so no worries there.
rot your teeth, are full of weird chemicals
Entirely true! *Especially* the non-sugar varieties (Aspartame and Sodium Benzoate - YUM!)
You're forgetting an important fact: CAFFEINE! My second-most favourite weird chemical.
taste horrible
Ah well, I do quite like Pepsi Max.
Perhaps you should develop a nice healthy like for fruit juice?
Still bad for your teeth according to my dentist. Fruit juice is still pretty acidic (citric acid) and sugary. In fact, he says that people being "healthy" and drinking fruit juice is actually bad for their teeth.
I do like fizzy things, so I'm on fizzy mineral water for a while now.

Yes, this is probably true. But then eating *anything* is bad for your teeth really! (although I seem to remember being told as a child that eating an apple was like cleaning your teeth. That can't be true!)
However, I think the health benefits of drinking a glass of fruit juice each day probably outweigh the tooth issues...
And at least there are health benefits, unlike with crap like pepsi.
Actually, I'm not so keen on fizzy water either - all that gas inside your belly *can't* be a good thing!
