Safe and well (so far) in Cumbria
Well, here we are in sunny Cumbria... which is actually true, it was quite sunny today. The cottage is fantastic, and far too nice for a bunch of scummy blokes like us. I nearly got lynched in Safeways in Millom earlier, when I suggested that Yorkshire Tea came from "the correct side of the Pennines" :-) I can't see what the fuss was about.
The rest of the guys are downstairs playing computer games. I've already read a copy of FHM (with its "Bikini Special"). Tea tonight was chicken pie (for starters) followed by huge heaps of pizza. We quickly rushed through the fresh fruit and vegetables section of Safeways earlier. I've got a big heap of books to keep my occupied. I'm hoping the skies aren't cloudy later, 'cos there's bugger all light pollution out here!
Mobile reception is pretty good here, as we're kinda near the coast. So I have a vague Internet connection on my cute little Vaio via GPRS. This runs at a staggering 2 Kilobytes per second most of the time, so it's like being back in the days of dodgy dial-up modems.
So earlier I had the nerdy idea of taking some pics with my the camera in my P800 and transferring them to the Vaio via Bluetooth. I could then FTP the pics to my web space and reference them in my LJ entry. All fine in theory, and I eventually got it to work in practice.
Here's my bed:

which is somewhat wasted on me sleeping alone in it...
Here's the sink in my room:

Right. So what's *that* going to do with my head in an altered state of mind?
Here's the rather wonderful bath:

Sadly, I don't have a Lush bath bomb to hand. And the gods alone know where the nearest Lush is...

To paraphrase Pratchett, it's not "gone all the TO" but "all the way AWAY FROM" :-)
There are men with wives and families on this trip. We're a long way from those wives and families. No one is going to be mowing any lawns this weekend. Nobody will be asked if a particular colour of curtain would look nice with the sofa in the lounge. We are all doing what the hell we please for four days. If that is sitting and playing computer games uninterrupted for four days, that is our choice!
Actually, I don't play computer games myself, but I do sit and read for about 10 hours a day.

Well, mine is a notebook. It's a very tiny machine, but it does have a reasonably sized keyboard.
You should be doing it soley via your phone!
Well, I can't reply to comments on my phone 'cos neither of the web browsers on it seem to handle this page properly :-( Plus, there's no FTP tool on my P800 for uploading pics to a web space (though such a tool may exist)
I *can* post a journal entry via the email interface, but that's about it. Plus, writing on the P800 is a lot slower than typing on my Vaio.

It's still the case that its quicker to type on the Vaio than write on the P800 though. GPRS is more reliable on the Vaio though. Ooh, each has its foibles.

i'm also curious to know why u attempted to reset the smoke alarm by inexpertly fiddling with the burglar alarm :)

Yes - 'black box' is for the more *ahem* (possibly, arguably) sensitive aspects of the weekend. The fact we act crap food, played computer games lots and were in a house with odd sink units seem entire reasonable items for public consumption! :-)
can i expect to see a full description of your bowel movements too?
If you like: they've been a bit grim. My digestive system is not happy right now (c.f. "crap food" above).
or how about an explanation of why you 'screamed like a girl' after having a bad dream last night?
I get nightmares, I wake up screaming. It happens sometimes. Generally, being somewhere other than my own home makes it worse. I had a nightmare and I *thought* I woke up screaming at October Whitby last year, but nobody else in the house heard me. Last night, I was trapped in a burning house and couldn't get out and I was burning to death. Sometimes these dreams intrude into The Waking World, and I scream for help. This is because (as is the way with humans) I'm paralysed when asleep, and can't *move* to escape the horror in the dream - screaming is all I can do.

I was confused. I hadn't slept well the previous night (acid reflux and nightmares) :-(
