I've got Friday on my mind
Temporal update
Wednesday night was the most excellent Games Night round at
road_runner's, although the first hour or so was just spent sat on the sofas, having *cough* rather blokey conversations and watching a program about Guns N' Roses on VH2. This was followed by much Mechwarrior mayhem, and an appearance by the lovely (though rather talkative)
everild.
Thursday I had quite a mellow day at work. A group of us went over to Sky Sports.com in Horrorgate to see how their Content Management System works. Seeing another dot.com is always fun: we're all the same. Ranks of desks with computers on, and nerds looking mildly worried at the stuff on the screens. Plastic toys personalise the desks. They even had the same coffee machines as us. Their offices were a bit nicer though, having a little café downstairs next to a delightful outdoor area with a fountain. However, as their system is written in Visual Basic and uses SQL Server as the backend I wasn't tempted to defect to them :-) They gave us lunch, then on the way back a project manager practically cleared out Betty's of cake, as a reward for those of us who had worked on a recent Orange football project.
Thursday night I went up to Middlesbrough for the Uefa Cup First Round, First Leg against Banik Ostrava (champions of the Czech league). Now, some people support teams that regularly play in European competitions. I don't. Boro have *never* (till this season) played in a real European competition. So I was quite excited about Thursday night! After a somewhat nervy first half, it all came together and the Viduka/Hasselbaink goal scoring machine came online and Boro won 3-0. Phew! Boro still have to go to the Czech Republic and play there, but even the Boro will have to work hard to lose 4-0 away to that team. Miss Dark wears wonderful outfits. I suspect an 8-1-1 formation for the away leg :-) Then it's the group stage, and two home and two away matches. Hopefully, Boro will get drawn in a group with a team that has a nice city. Somewhere warm in Italy or Spain would be nice. Benfica, Lazio and Sporting Lisbon are all in this cup, but I've no idea what the seeding rules are like.
Tonight is
mistressmalaise's birthday meal, and tomorrow is Annual Lad's Weekend Away (which extends out to Tuesday), so I'm getting very demob happy. I'm handing things over to someone today who will be taking on some of my tasks, and writing docs for him.
Not going to attempt to write any code today. I suspect the events of the weekend will wipe out any memories of the code I write, and I'll come back on Wednesday to a pile of Perl and think "what's this, and what does it all mean?" I realise some would say this is common behaviour when reading *any* pile of Perl code :-)

Well it is a write only language!
Have fun tonight and on your weekend away and see you sometime soon.

I am always *very* talkative so am not sure why this is particularly worthy of note, especially with the implication that it's a bad thing Mr Pot calling Dr Kettle black ;-p

I'm starting to forget how bits of it work too.
