Weekend update.
Saturday morning I wandered into the city with
resyk for a boy's trip eating bacon-based meals, talking about tech and going into bookshops. I totally forgot my Book Token, so didn't buy any books for myself. However, I bought a couple of books as presents. I might read them myself, of course, taking extreme care not to break the spines :-)
After a small snooze at home in the sun, I read some of my nice big Saturday Guardian. A PCWorld supplement about digital photography fell out, including a 10% off offer on all their digital cameras. That, and
miss_dark's party that night, convinced me to pop down to PCWorld and buy the camera (see previous entry).
That evening Trash and I picked up
ant_girl and
mister_ed and headed over to
miss_dark's party in Leeds. Lots of nice food! Saw utterly loads of interesting people (too many to list), played with my camera lots (pictures to follow at some point), and managed to get a picture of every single one of her seven lovely ginger and white boy cats. By virtue of only sitting down outside, I seem to have avoided the cat hairs. I think I scared
ant_girl and
mister_ed somewhat on the way home with a slightly odd "is this dual carriageway - oops, it's not" incident.
Sunday I had no plan other than to meet
wendles and
simon_a at The Maltings in York. I awoke early, and whilst spodding away
cyberspice spotted me for an online chat. Apparently she was heading over at lunchtime to return
jezebel_z to York, so I suggested they joined us. I rode my motorbike over to The Maltings at about midday, and was sat with a pint of lager shandy and a chunk of Sunday paper when three dodgy goths wandered in. They all looked curiously familiar... It was
ladyserpentine, Pandora and Marquis (eek, what are their LJ names?). After a certain amount of "what are you doing here?" we worked out that
grega was the common link, him having (IIRC) DJ'ed the previous night at The Body Electric, and so coming along with
wendles and
simon_a.
About 12:30 my phone rang. Trash was having a somewhat bizarre crisis. A large fat pigeon had somehow or other got into our greenhouse. It was flapping around like a mad thing and causing all sorts of hassle. The cats were involved too. Trash has a bit of a phobia about "flapping things" - birds, daddy long legs, large moths, etc. As I'm arachnophobic we each deal with the others phobias. So I got on my bike and rode back to sort things out. When I got to the greenhouse Grendel was sat on the floor eyeing the pigeon up. I thought this was brave of him, seeing as he has caught precisely zero birds in the 13 years he's ben on this earth. The pigeon then started to flap about, and Grendel proved the complete unsuitability of his name by RUNNING AWAY! Bah! Removing the pigeon was simplicity itself: I located a large piece of cloth and threw it over the pigeon. Birds just freeze up when this happens. I then took it to the centre of the lawn and let it loose. A quick kick up the arse before another cat wandered over to cause trouble and it flew off. It didn't seem to have damaged its wings so it's probably OK, although pigeons are "rats with wings" so I won't lose any sleep over it.
After this small trauma Trash's Knight in Black Leather returned to the pub. By this time the others (
wendles,
simon_a,
grega,
cyberspice and
jezebel_z had arrived). Food had been ordered and enough had arrived to make me realise I didn't need a 'main meal'. The 'snack' portions here were enough to give *me* (a notorious food scoffer) pause for thought. A hot plate of chips and curry later and I felt much better.
After a couple of hours of pleasant conversation (and lots of info on fotopic from
wendles - thanks!) I returned to my house, where I've spent the last few hours being utterly mellow and reading a huge wobbly heap of papers.

Ah, but rats are lovely. :-)
And pigeons can be quite cute in their own way. I don't think either deserve their bad press.

Ah, true, 'domesticated' rats are lovely. I have no problem with them. It's their wild cousins who run around in poo all day spreading plague I'm not so keen on!

...ah clever *grin*
Pigeons are beautiful *beam*.. i was so scared that your story might have a sad end... but there really was no need for the 'quick kick up the arse' I'm sure a gentle nudge would have been just as effective!! *grin*
..have you seen

No. Her LJ is friends only, so I can't see them...

However, thinking about things a little more carefully, I assume she's got a fotopic account, which has a guessable URL... Ah, there they all are!

Ermm, hi!

Nice to meet you in surroundings more suitable for social intercourse :-)
