We sing in praise of Total War
Verily, it came to pass that
road_runner,
steer,
vin_petrol,
andyguest and Damien (WINOLJ) did meet on the field of battle in Medieval Total War. They did fight alone or as allies in various configurations, but one fact cannot be disputed. In all battles,
vin_petrol was triumphant or part of the winning side. This despite the many diverse and malignant names his fellow players did bestow upon him. They mocked mightily his "probing attacks". They poured scorn on his careful, methodical approach to warfare. They uttered such statements as "hurry up", or "gods, hast ye not finished deploying thou's troops yet." However, their shields were shattered, swords snapped and bodkins broken (and I heard the lamentation of their women). The enemy troops ran like scurvy dogs before us. Kebab shop music did play merrily when my Turkish forces routed their feeble rabble. Bwa ha ha. I shall rule the world!
Thanks to
road_runner for hosting a most excellent evening.

I think you'll find you actually heard the horribly lascivious comments of their women about certain 1980s glam metal stars. When Paul Stanley and David Lee Roth are on the box we have no interest in the fate of our men I'm afraid :-)

They're gay lovers, you know...

If only that were true and I had photos ;-)

We will have to try MTW over the internet. I am sure that if I give people my IP address and set up a password on the game it'll work a treat. I may need to do a little routing work, but that's no big.
We could have a massive battle since there are a good few MTW fans out there. Our gang from last night,

Definitely. What would also be interesting is if allies were on the phone to each other too. They could chat safely about tactics whilst geographically separate. That would add a new dimension to it, 'cos you can't really do that when you're all in the same room.

Do we need to make sure we are all running the same version ? I've got both the game and the Vikings expansion and usually grab the latest patch too. I know some multi-player games sulk when you try to connect different versions together.

I did find a downloadable battle for Stamford Bridge though, and a roman mod ( Dave King's Patrician) to keep me happy till Rome Total War comes out.

I got loads of chance to be humble in defeat.
But you do fight like a girl.

Count me in, this sounds like a right hoot.
I am almost certain we will need to all be on the same version. I am also fairly sure that Vincents PC might struggle (it is a geForce 2 MX card isn't it Vince?). Maybe with lots of eye-candy turned down.
Will MTW run in a window, cos we could then use MSN or ICQ for tactics discussions?

I know you can do this during the setup and unit selection bits, but haven't seen it once the battle has started. Seems obvious that is *should* let you do this.

I've absolutely no idea. According to my Control Panel, under Display Adapters it says I have an "ASUS AGP-V7100 SDRAM v6.31b", if that helps.
