Weekend Update
We wore
evie_petrol out on Saturday, with a busy day: ballet lesson at 10:00, followed by two hours rampaging in Rowntree Park whilst Trash turned into a blonde at the hairdressers, then a party for one of her nursery friends in the afternoon. She slept well after all that.
The Rush gig was amazing! I do like my dose of dodgy prog-rock served up by ancient Canadian metallers. They didn't quite sell out the Sheffield Arena. Possibly the ticket prices were too steep this time round (just short of £50), but then they do have a more 'affluent' (i.e. old) fan-base these days. Their last tour included their first UK dates for something like 12 years, and I honestly thought they would be their *last* UK dates forever, so I had to go. This most recent tour has been something of a bonus. Robin commented on the "cookie cutter" style of Rush fans: male, forty-ish, tour t-shirt, shaved heads due to hair-loss, etc. Yes, this is true, but we *like* our songs about dragons and objectivism.
Oh, and the video intro to Tom Sawyer (via South Park) is great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTYXMSrS82w
Alex Lifeson is looking a little porky, but Geddy Lee is still thin with lots of long hair (bastard!). Neil Peart looked a bit worried behind his drum kit during his drum solo, although you do get "air drummers" at Rush gigs so he has to get it right.
Sunday was spent relaxing... Well, as much as you can with the three-year-old around. The weather was nice, so we threw her out to play on the cul-de-sac with all her little friends. Some adult or other just keeps an eye on the mob of small boys and girls that then runs around, riding bikes and scooters, climbing on climbing frames, having tea parties, making mud-pies, bouncing on trampolines, swinging on swings, pushing each other around in buggies and occasionally having fall-outs or sulks or bashing each other over the head with things.
