Those of you without toddlers are probably unaware of the strangeness that is LazyTown, where a perky pink young girl and her plastic friends are protected by a superhero called Sportacus who lives in an airship. At the end of every episode the pink young girl sings the most astonishingly annoying but perfect piece of plinky plonky Europop: the Bing Bang song. It's probably [livejournal.com profile] evie_petrol's favourite television program right now, which probably tells you all you need to know.

So I'm quietly pleased to discover that this song is being released as a single today, and could well be the xmas number one!

Now the rest of you can suffer as I have! Bwa ha ha :-)

If you're feeling brave, it's on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moBnvpvL47Q
You'll need a strong constitution to make it to the end!

Having said all that, I actually think the LazyTown 'pirate song' is one of the best pirate songs there is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0yI2MQf8Tk
You'll never catch me dancing round the room with a two year old to this, oh, no, never...

I love Lazytown, one of the best kids programmes since Charlton and the Wheelies. And its premise is not far off.

I caught it by accident on beeb two while channel hopping early one morning before work. I vividly remember the bad guy (cant remember his name) in the pin stripes trying to destroy Lazytown by feeding the kids chips. Pure genius!

I'm buying the single.

How can you compare the most irritating annoying bouncey little girlie on the planet with the laid backness and calm of Chorlton? It's nothing like it!!

Well, you're right, it could do without the annoying bouncy little girlie. I think I just want the bad guy to win just once, he's really cool.

I still think that it's similar to Charlton and the Wheelies in premise at least. The witch is now male and wears a pinstripe suit, Charlton flies around in a zeppelin and wears a blue jump suit eating fruit (although he doesn't call it that), and the town has a population of 10.

........AND the good guy is annoyingly nice to the bad guy all the time.

Its the same.... honest!

TBH I've never seen it and as long as that annoying little oik of a girl is in it I'm very unlikely to as I'll end up throwing the TV out of the window after about 30 secs!

I think I'll go and watch some Chorlton DVDs to calm down...

btw do you have an uncontrollable urge to strangle the girl?

Strangle her? I want to beat her repeatedly with a baseball bat until that horrible smarmy grin of hers disappears for ever...

I was never really a fan of kids TV even as a kid...

Whenever (rarely.. however) I end up flicking onto Lazytown I find myself completely transfixed..

It's like crack-cocaine for hyperactive children (if they aren't before they watch it, they may well be afterwards).. and has no small effect on easily swayed adults like myself.

I'm not sure whether it's the annoying songs, bizarre and scary puppets, colour overload, the impossibly perky girl or the sheer vacant energy of Mike Manuskript Sportacus.. but something about it just makes me keep watching it until the end..

Whilst the end song is extremely annoying.. it is possibly the most perfect annoying song I've ever hear.

Thankfully, my daily routine keeps me away from TV's when it's on.. so I've been able to break the habit.

There have been *loads* of articles recently in the paper about LazyTown. The guy that plays Sportacus (real name Marcus Scheving or something like that) is actually the creator/producer/writer/director of the show (as well as being the star) but in real life he has blond hair, tragically not the moustache, and is actually quite fit looking.

Henry absolutely adores lazy town and thinks Robbie Rotten is "fwunny".

I'm not certain about Sportacus' relationship with Stephanie though. Do you think she's like the female Krankie and is actually much older than she looks cos they look very cozy to me.

BTW, don't you think the Pirate Song from Boogie-Beebies is good too?

Yes you are right - CBeebies has definitely taken 2nd place to Nick Jr now (especially WonderPets which Henry adores). He also likes Oo-doo (scooby doo) and Shubub-dur-dur (spongebob squarepants) so I find it very easy to watch TV with him too ha ha ha.
