For the first time in years, I've watched the Eurovision song contest, to be astonished to see a bunch of orcs from Finland win it. \m/

Even better, the French did *really* badly.

The French were shite - they don't even bother now. I think they just ask someone in a local shop if they want to represent them.

lingua franca? lingua britannica!

DId you notice that the French were the only nation to deliver their votes in a language other than English?

You will probably appreciate the fact that the only word to be derived from French in the following speech is the last one:

We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

The Spanish vote was also delivered in French, possibly because they are sick of being expected to provide 'full english' for hilidaying chavs.

Call me cynical, but my immediate suspicion is that must mean Spain wants French support for something. The 'political voting' is always so transparent. My favourite was the Cypriot presenter and his comment about 'the last divided capital in Europe'.

Oh - for the record - I am a francophone francophile . I just like humouring Vincent (good French name, that)

Apparently, there is a bit of chuntering going on about the increase in eastern european participation, those being the most prominently 'anti' voices.

The Cypriot bit was awful but it's inspired me to read some of the stuff on collusive voting patters - fascinating stuff!

Probably they got maximum points from Britain because everyone i spoke to voted for them at least a couple of times. YAY!! The best band won though Lithuania was a close second in my book. :)
