Crunch!

There are a few comments on my previous (Friends Only) post which I would normally have replied to, but earlier today I encountered an example of the "unexpected and problematic event" I sometimes talk about. At 12:30 I got a rather tearful phone call from Trash. Whilst stationary at some traffic lights, returning home from The Wacky Warehouse with Evie in the back, a large black 4X4 had piled into the back of the Civic Type-R! Trash and Evie were fine (but both rather shaken). The Type-R has a somewhat bent and buckled back end. The hatch still opens and (just about) closes. It's insured fully comprehensive and Trash has already been on the phone to the insurance company. The Type-R will be off to their repair place on Clifton Moor shortly. Who knows what they'll find underneath when they get it up on the ramp...

Fortunately, Fridays at work are usually quiet. We rarely roll out new systems, code or configurations as you don't want to risk something being broken all weekend. Therefore it was OK for me to take the afternoon off, and head back to York to make cups of tea for a slightly wobbly Trash and help out with looking after Evie.

It happened at the first set of traffic lights on the A1036 turn off for York. The driver was from Bolton and clearly not paying attention to what was going on, as the visibility of those lights is good and there's plenty of shellgrip on the road there too. Bah!

Bugger! It's so common too! I've had it happen to me twice. Both times vans. I suspect the 4 x 4 driver being higher just looked over the top and blanked your car. Give my love to Trash and Evie and I hope they get over it quickly.

I know you probably don't want to hear this but I strongly suggest that once the car is sorted out you replace it with another one that hasn't been rear ended. I found after mine was rear ended it rotted rather quickly. All sorts of seems had been popped and sealant cracked.

I really hope it's good news though.

Eeek... well, I'm glad no real harm's done.

How awful. Best wishes to both ladies. And the car.

Ouch. Pity about the car, but that can be fixed or replaced, so it's just inconvenient. Thankfully eveyone's okay - that's all that matters.

Ouch! These horrible nasty 4x4 drivers... Did they get their come-uppance in the budget? Hope everyone is now feeling better after a liberal application of tea and hugs.

Arsebicuits! Watch out for those stiff necks and let's hope the Civic can be fettled.

Big hugs to you all, its really frightening when something like that happens and I hope they both recover quickly.
Bloody 4x4 drivers - they are such a nuisance. £210 road tax isn't enough - should be £2100 to put more of the feckless ones off the idea.
I wonder if you'll get the same police follow up Andy did when he was at the front of a mini pile up on the motorway near Rotherham last year? The police contacted Andy to say that they could prosecute the driver who caused it for reckless driving or driving without due care or attention or in lieu of prosecution make him go on a road safety re-training course. They asked all involved the same question - re-education or prosecution. Andy opted for re-education thinking that was the better option in the long run all round.

Ouch. Must be the week for it, with our Legacy's engine dying. I assume it's gone to Just Car Clinic on Clifton Moor? They did a reasonable job on the Legacy when the front end got crunched.

We've been over to Harrogate this morning to look at a cheap Legacy, and are off to Karelia Cars this afternoon (just to see if those adverts on Minster FM are true)

Glad to hear that Evie and Trash were both unhurt. It's bizarrely ironic that as Ellie and I were leaving Wacky Warehouse Trash was telling Evie not to stick her 'Wacky Warehouse' sticker on the civic's petrol flap as Daddy would be really unhappy about his car being treated like that!
