This is really good news as (oddly) I have an utter love of broccoli and can quite happily eat mounds of the stuff. I celebrated reading this by going out and buying a wedge for my tea.

Hey, and kebabs are usually covered in sliced cabbage, so I can eat those too! :-)

Now all I need is for someone to discover the life-saving properties of BAKED BEANS and my diet is sorted.

Vast quantities of cabbage, broccoli and baked beans may well prevent you catching infectious illnesses too. As nobody will want to get that close to you to pass them on...

But everyone knows that baked beans make you grow hairs on your chest if you're a boy and long nails if you're a girl, at least that what my mum used to tell me ;-)

Fib - surely not *grin*
One fib I do remember my Mum telling me was that the Bay City Rollers loved Scotch Broth in an attempt to get me to eat the blasted stuff. It is the slimiest tinned soup ever!!and I really didn't like it but I did love the Bay City Rollers. I believed that they liked it (although steak and chips was one of their fave meals according to the annual I had) but I still couldn't stomach it. Homemade scotch broth however is quite tasty.

Anyone else tried the much hyped Branston baked beans yet? They're gorgeous but I haven't noticed any extra chest insulation.

BTW: beans come in tomato sauce which is chock full of flavonols.

I have tried the branston beans (they were on offer in the local supermarket at 89p for 4 tins) and they were very tasty indeed.

see, my consumption of vast amounts of chicken and brocolli pasta bakes is justified for health reasons!

Unless I've misunderstood it, the news here is the elucidation of the mechanism - it's been known for ages that eating your brassicas is good for preventing cancer (and several other nasties).

I'm right with you on broccoli - it's delicious. It feel a bit of a cheat to count as a vegetable to me because it's so much nicer than just about anything else. And yet it's one of the healthiest veg around. Result!
