Temporal Update

Before my Whitby ramblings, an update of what I did before then.
2005-04-13 Thursday
Still in London. Went to see my friend Pete (WINOLJ) who lives in a very nice penthouse on the 21st floor ... in Battersea :-) Lovely view of the power station, though. Actually, he has what is (IMHO) a fantastic view across the city. I love cityscapes at night, and I quite like a bit of industrialisation visible in them.
He has a regular Thursday night Film Night. He got a television projector and screen from somewhere cheap, and he projects DVDs onto it, with proper Dolby Surround Sound. The results are amazing. The showing was of Apocalypse Now: Redux. As this is one of my favourite films of all time I was quite happy. I recall seeing the "Ride of the Valkyries" helicopter attack on a BAFTA awards program years ago, when I was quite young (1979? so I was 11-12) and being utterly astonished by it. It still amazes me to this day. And Robert Duvall gets such great lines: "Charlie don't surf!", "I love the small of napalm in the morning", "in this outfit you can either surf, or fight!"
I'm banned from quoting lines from this film at home.
There's a part of me that will always wish I was a war photographer in Vietnam, like the character Dennis Hopper played (based on the Englishman Tim Page), riding Hueys into a combat zone, Nikon slung around my neck and pockets full of Tri-X.
2005-04-14 Friday
The Java course finished, I returned to York on the lovely 16:00 train out of Kings Cross, which doesn't stop till it reaches York at 17:47. Over 200 miles in 107 minutes - whoosh! It had slam doors with slidy windows, so I was able to stick my head out into the breeze and watch us coming into York Station (naughty). 43114 at the front and 43112 at the back.
After a week away, Trash wanted some attention so I didn't make it out to
clotilde's party.
2005-04-15 Saturday
Fantastic Dr Who! The Wendy House was great too.
2004-04-16 Sunday
Took
evie_petrol to Ellie's first birthday party. It's always nice visiting a house where little children live: floor level is already generally safe, so you can let your own child loose without having to worry. Saw Patrick (WINOLJ), who I haven't seen for years.
2004-04-19 Tuesday
Boro get a miserable 1-1 draw with Fulham, needing a lucky 90th minute penalty to achieve even that :-(
2004-04-20 Wednesday
Games Night! I manage to win another game of Settlers. I like that game a lot. I lose another game of Ticket to Ride. Silly game.
2004-02-21 Thursday
I pack for Whitby!
