Historic gigs - were you there?
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I know that a few people on my friends list were at 'significant' gigs in my history. Some of you I've only known for a year or two, and perhaps I don't know this. I kinda like the idea that we (perhaps) were both at some great gig in the past, without knowing each other at that time. So, please indulge me:

And what, pray, might be deemed "suitable"?

Hmmm, Killing Miranda and Screaming Banshee Aircrew in Leeds on May 1st looks likely. What do you think?

Of course... You can have some air from my lungs next time I see you :-)
I suspect minusbat will get more but I may be wrong.
I think he'll get the same as you: both SoM plus the NMA. I'm pretty sure he wasn't at the Dio gig!

I'll live without the air from your lungs -- but it's lovely of you to offer.
ISTR that there were TWO 10th anniversary leeds gigs for the sisters. I may be wrong and can't remember if I was at one or both.

Entirely correct: Uni and Poly (as it was then) on consecutive nights. Apparently, the Poly gig was the better of the two, and I wasn't at that one :-(

a number of times in a numer of coutries. One may well have been
Sheffiled actually. What was so notable or significant about
that gig ? Was it before or after they got Heinrick in ?
no subject
*laughs* it was the first live "bleepy shit" gig I ever went to :-) I kinda "came out" on Rock Bus Mailing List that I listened to this sort of music. I don't think it was particularly significant to everyone else.

normal band to me, woith Synths (but then so do Depeche Mode
or any nunmber of other 80's bands). What makes Covenant count
as 'bleep' where VNV Nation or Apoptygma don't then ?
no subject
Nothing! VNV Nation and Apop are bleepy shit too! :-)
no subject
repettitive, mainly bassline techno. Apop, VNV, Covenant to me are just
ordinary goth synth bands.

Before I went to this gig, the majority of bands I saw live used human drummers. Since then that's been the minority.

i keep tabs, you know. ;op
*looks around*
erm.. what am i doing here?

Ah, but this was the super-special 20th anniversary, where they "supported themselves" and slowly built up the band bringing out a new member every couple of songs. IIRC it was also the first time in years that Vagabonds had been played with the original electric violin player.

Pixies, secret Scarborough gig, summer 1990.
Pixies/Throwing Muses, anywhere on their 1988 tour.
Polly Jean Harvey, Leeds Duchess of York, about a week after her first album came out.
Bongwater/AC Temple/Dogbowl, Leeds Duchess of York

Actually, that's a good point. They were significant. What were they though?
* Hawkwind at The Barbican (which is I think the only one I went to).
* Creaming Jesus?
* Daisy Chainsaw ("we love pete's money ... all pete's money").
* Surreal gig in Bradford with dog/fire alarm/etc - who was that?
And, of course, the legendary gig that never happened:
* Nirvana ("I'm holding out for Mudhoney").

I would just like to say that my first ever gig was at the Piece Hall, Halifax in 1986 (age 14) to see Ghost Dance, Salvation, The Wedding Present, Pop Will Eat Itself and a couple of others who I can't remember.
