General update

Argh. I'm back at work fill time now. No more 'adoption leave' for me :-( I'm back on the train too, so my mornings start very early (0645). Ouch! Still, the train journey is a nice, quiet time where I can read a morning paper, so I don't mind it too much. But getting up when it's still dark is always depressing.
Evie has moved on development-wise in quite a cute way. She worked out how to roll onto her front a while ago, but then she would get *very* frustrated she couldn't crawl yet, and wail and groan and gnash her teeth ... er ... gums. However, just after xmas she worked out how to roll from there onto her back AND KEEP ON ROLLING! Suddenly, she became a vaguely mobile little baby. She cheered up no end with her new found ability to roll around the lounge floor, giggling a lot and sticking *everything* she could get her hands on into her mouth (including the cat, who was unimpressed).
I didn't really go out much over xmas/new year. I don't really celebrate either per se. I have a simplistic aversion to celebrating something that other people tell me to. Trash expressed the desire that I stayed in with her, and that seemed entirely reasonable. I'm feeling a little stir-crazy now though, so I'll try to get out to something over the next few weeks.
I've been playing Second Life on and off, when I get chance. It's shown up all sorts of deficiencies in my home PC in terms of hardware (i.e. RAM and graphics card) which hasn't been a problem for the last couple of years: Civ 3 and Angband didn't require much in the way of hardware. So I now have a list of tech items to buy to sort this out. It's an interesting environment.
Football was interesting though. Middlesbrough ended the year pretty well, although the current batch of matches is hard (Manchester United on New Year's Day - lost, Chelsea last night - lost, with Everton up next [probably lose]). BTW, I encode paragraphs about football in red to wind up the LJ user whose first name is miss and second name is dark. I also generally try to hide a hidden compliment about her in the paragraph to entice her to read it (she knows I do this). Now, I need to put it in such a way that she can't skim-read the paragraph and find it. Hmmm. It's very strange having Boro so high in the table at this stage - I'm soooo not used to it. I mean, the Everton match is a "European place 6-pointer", rather than the more common "relegation place 6-pointer" I've been used to. Ah, I know. I'll list some football teams, and if you take the initial letter from each team they make up a word about her: Liverpool, Oldham, Villa, Everton, Liverpool, Yeovil. Bwa ha ha!
Evie is somewhat unwell too. We both had a nasty cough at the weekend, the kind that can take hold of you and give you a complete coughing fit that results in you literally "coughing your guts up" and bringing up all sorts of bodily fluids or stomach contents. Ew! I'm a lot better now, but it's really taken the brightness out of her and turned her into a very grumpy baby. This coincides with Trash becoming full time primary child carer so she's a bit unimpressed.
