Well, I had an absolutely fantastic weekend! Most of it involved a long celebration of [livejournal.com profile] ant_girls's birthday, so huge thanks to her for organising various fun events.

Friday night was [livejournal.com profile] ant_girl's birthday meal at the Royal Dragon in York. Nice food and mellow company, although I did tell a horrendously nasty anti-French joke which I'm sure means [livejournal.com profile] clotilde has told the rest of you a fun factoid. I wandered back via [livejournal.com profile] gothgrr's, where I helped her, [livejournal.com profile] rainbowskye and [livejournal.com profile] ashe_black demolish a tub of ice cream. The logic was that when ice cream melts it's liquid, and water is a liquid, so eating ice cream is really like drinking water. At 0100 I was flagging and ready for some serious sleeping, so I went home. Yawning and about to stagger to my bed, my phone rang! It was a *very*, *very* drunk [livejournal.com profile] resyk, who then spent some time trying to convince me to go out night clubbing with him. At some point during the phone call (as far as I can tell) he fell over and couldn't get back up. I declined his offer, and (eventually) got to bed.

[The condition [livejournal.com profile] resyk got himself into can be judged from this blog entry]

Saturday was the next step in [livejournal.com profile] ant_girl's birthday weekend, a trip to the The Forbidden Corner. Driving past the numerous ethanol-users staggering about in York City Centre (it was a race day), I drove up to the station and picked up [livejournal.com profile] a_crow. We had some vague maps and idea of where we were going, but we actually got there with no real hassles. Some pictures may follow.

The Forbidden Corner was fantastic. It started off OK, but once I got to the underground bit I was transfixed. The grotto was incredible. It reminded me of the sort of thing would would encounter in a computer game like Silent Hill or Resident Evil, all gloomy and atmospheric. Like many people who went, I figure a return visit when the place is less busy would be a good plan. The stepping stone approach to the underground temple was great, and I did like the stone giant's bottom :-)

I then took [livejournal.com profile] miss_dark back to my house for tea. I got kinda lost and vague on the way back, and even drove through Horrorgate (eek!) [livejournal.com profile] miss_dark was introduced to my cats (meow). Then everyone went out to Darklands in York, which was lots of fun. Much ethanol was used, and various people were giggly and glowy by the end of the evening (yes, [livejournal.com profile] gothgrr and [livejournal.com profile] rainbowskye, I mean *you*: "non-alcoholic black current juice with a hint of cider" indeed!) To be honest, Darklands got a bit hot for me, but the "chill out room" in the form of the beer garden to the rear sorted me out.

Sunday morning I got up and made scones for the British GP watching session at [livejournal.com profile] steer's. Some people who attended looked a little the worse for wear :-) As it was the British GP, we had curry. [livejournal.com profile] steer made a fantastic mushroom curry (mmmm, mushrooms), plus a hot prawn curry too - I broke my dietary rule and ate arthropod. The scones went down well with lovely (French) jam and whipped cream. The race was of medium interest, mostly due to [livejournal.com profile] gothgrr's enthusiasm over young Kimi leading for a bit, till nasty, horrible Schumacher overtook him via faster pit stops.

Sunday evening the weekend finished with a trip to Manchester to see KMFDM - a band I've wanted to see live for years. They were really good, although I was feeling pretty tired by this point and I think the rest of the crowd was too. There were signs up before the gig saying that KMFDM would be finished by a "10.30 curfew", which really made it feel like a Sunday night. The band themselves called us all cunts for being so quiet. It really did feel like the end of a fantastic weekend. Still, it was great to finally see KMFDM live. Their current female lead singer is gorgeous: she sings well, looks good, and writhes well on stage, scowling at us across her keyboard/mixing desk thing. A perfect female singer: gloriously attractive and also unattainable *sigh*. [livejournal.com profile] kneeshooter took some great pics of KMFDM at the London gig.

After a Mancunian kebab (average) and a drive home where I dozed off (although I do recall [livejournal.com profile] mistressmalaise singing Piss On Your Grave by the Scary Bitches very loudly at some point), I fell into bed at 0100 and slept the sleep of the Damned.

Women scowl at me all the time :(

But I accept the deal re: the scary bitches.

"can do it with The Scary Bitches?"

I'd pay good money to see you try that.

'giggly and glowy', us?!
I'm sure I wouldn't have wandered around chuckling to myself and telling everyone I loved them and making them have group hugs and dance to the Dead Kennedys..surely not...
:)
You were very kind and solicitous after our welfare on Sunday though - I'm sure the rehydration process would have been much longer without your ministrations!
