Lost Weekend
I've been a bit out of it the last few days. We think
evie_petrol had a bout of croup (or at least something which approximates very similar symptoms) so she's been very gumpy and ill over the weekend. She's on the mend now though. I was vaguely asleep at midnight on New Year's Eve, as Evie was having problems sleeping, so I knew I was in for "a long night", and had gone to bed early. Fortunately, my parents were staying over for another reason, so they were able to help out.
Trash and I went mattress shopping on New Year's Day, which is why my parents were staying: they could look after Evie for a few hours whilst we went out. Can you imagine how boring mattress shopping would be for a 2.5 year old? And how naughty they would get in the shop? I can! The Horror. The Horror. So we had a relaxing couple of hours lying on different beds and seeing how they felt. Very mellow when you've not had the best night's sleep. Trash suspected I would want to buy a memory foam mattress, simply on the basis the technology was developed by NASA :-) As it was, the memory foam was OK, but I didn't think it was quite worth the extra cash. We bought a high quality 'traditional' mattress, on the basis that sleep really is the thing we both miss most now we have Evie in our lives, and that something comfortable to sleep on is really important to us these days (pipe and slippers beckons). I could feel the difference over the cheaper mattresses, and I knew if I bought a cheaper one I would spend the next 10 years regretting it. Fortunately, Trash knows someone who works at the shop we were at, so we were able to negotiate a nice discount ;-) We had actually asked everyone for money towards this mattress for xmas presents, as to be honest "I have enough stuff". Now time. If you could give me a present of time. Or perhaps, more specifically, time when I'm not knackered...
Work this morning was insanely busy. Something changed recently didn't it? The YEAR! It's not 2006 any more, it's 2007. A surprising number of systems I'm involved with seemed astonished at this change, and broke yesterday. Nothing of mine, I will swiftly add. I think my favourite breakage was the Press Association's cricket fixtures delivery. At 08:02 on 2007-01-01 they carefully delivered us a year's fixtures ... for 2006 *sigh*
