As some of you may know, I work with a lot of sports data, processing XML files through databases and out to phones as SMS messages. I've been working on one particular sport over the last two weeks. I've built a new system to handle XML messages relating to that sport. I mostly completed it on Friday, but it needs some testing. I was quite looking forward to today. Y'see, there was going to be a televised, world-class example of this sport being played today, during office hours. This is an utterly perfect testing situation. I can set my code running, turn on my television, and watch the match unfold. I have xterms running tailing the log files, and I can watch the data come in and update the database tables. I can even time how long it takes for a live event shown on the television to actually reach our system and be visible on our WAP portal. This is the sort of thing managers here always want to know.

Sadly, the sport in question is cricket. For those of you who don't follow it, yesterday Pakistan forfeited the fourth test against England, and there will be no cricket today. This is the first time in 129 years, and 1814 matches, that a test match has been conceded by forfeit. Bugger! Best find something else to do today...
